what is the essence of rock an roll. Suburban kids getting out their aggression. they dont know where their aggression comes from, but these angst filled youth rebel against the status quoe to feel apart of something real. that is what amtgard is to me. Amtgard is that little escape to someplace greater than what i am. where once a week i rise from my meager social standings and become someone i never could be. In the real world i cant do much but work and live my normal life. lets face it. we all cant be rock stars. But if I want to i can for a short time stop being Aaron the Roofer from Podunk no-wheresville, and become the stealthy assassin Clyde. I can imaginary kill people and imaginary save peoples lives, and do so many things that i will never do in real life.
The Rising Winds is a family of people who share this same idea. Leaving their mundane lives for a few short hours a week to become something else. Relieving the angst from normal life and giving a part of theirselves to something greater. Like any family we have squabbles and rivalry, but I dont know a group of people i would trust more than the people i meet every week to beat the crap out of with foam on sticks.
The rising winds relieves my stress and alows me to escape to a place where i can rise above what i am. So until i become a Rock Star, I'll Be an Amtgarder
