Committees

Several special-purpose committees are formed and empowered by the Board of Directors to perform specific tasks. Rather than being elected to terms, these committees simply include particularly motivated permanent members with special skill sets. These committees report their activities to the public at the regular monthly Board of Directors meetings.

Documents Committee

Created by Tyler Ward the Documents Committee was created to have a consistent body of individuals helping to improve the governing documents and policies of the Rising Winds. With the ever-growing tech resources, they have also expanded in monitoring the Kingdom’s online assets as well. This committee’s interim chair is Adam Hill.

Site Search Committee

The Site Search Committee was created in order to find locations that would be beneficial sites for day events and overnight camping events within the areas of the Rising Winds. This committee is co-chaired by KasSandra Love-Crokos and Kaydee Diemler, and is open to any member of the Rising Winds that wants to help.

Fundraising Committee

The Fundraising committee was created to find inventive ways to generate revenue for the kingdom and its lands to use to increase production value via props and materials. Currently our Teespring, Redbubble, and other avenues are utilized to generate income for upkeep and a better experience for our membership. This committee is chaired by Matt Loudermilk.

Recruitment Committee

The Recruitment Committee is focused on growing the Kingdom of the Rising Winds through hosting New Player events, and organizing educational content for those just taking their first footsteps in the community. They draw in talent from around the Kingdom to help chapters learn how to best engage with potential New Players, and help manage the recruitment material that goes out. Their recruitment activities are primarily focused on April 1st through September 30th, each year, though some educational content or preparation activities may go on outside of those months. This committee is co-chaired by Adam Rohr and Joshua George.

What is the BOD?

The Board of Directors – The “Business” Behind The Kingdom

In addition to being a Kingdom in a Fantasy game, The Rising Winds is an incorporated 501(c)(7) non-profit organization, and as such must maintain a Board of Directors to conduct business officially.

The Rising Winds Board of Directors is elected by our dues-paid citizens, with the exception of the Treasurer. The 7 voting board members are elected by the populace to overlapping 1-year terms, half in the summer and half in the winter. Additionally, the Kingdom Monarch holds one non-voting seat on the board ex officio, and the Treasurer – who is appointed by the voting board – holds another seat. The Board of Directors typically meets online every month. Board of Directors meetings are largely open to the public, and meeting minutes are published afterwards.

Typically the Board of Directors will be responsible for:

-all dealings with outside organizations; including but not limited to the police, parks departments, site owners and public officials.
-voting to suspend players when the board becomes aware that the player is convicted of (or presently charged with) a felony which may endanger the club by association.
-voting to approve or deny all petitions from chapters that wish to join the Kingdom.
-managing the kingdom finances and filing taxes for the organization.

The Board of Directors’ operations are outlined in our Bylaws.

What is the COM?

The Circle of Monarchs – An Institution of the People

All chapters of The Rising Winds have a monarch, among other officers. These monarchs serve many purposes at the local level, and have an equally important role in the goings-on of their Kingdom.

At every Rising Winds kingdom event, the Circle of Monarchs meets after Saturday Feast and Court. The Circle of Monarchs discusses the individual health of chapters currently in the kingdom; having the voting power to make many chapter modifications, including but not necessarily limited to:

-Chapter promotions and demotions between Shire, Barony and Duchy statuses.
-Allowing Freeholds to join the kingdom.
-Removing chapters from the kingdom for frequent violations of the Corpora or Rulebook, inactivity, or other reasons.

In addition to chapter health, the Circle of Monarchs may be used by the Kingdom officers to distribute awards to players not handed out at Court for various reasons, such as the player not being present or the officers having too many awards and not enough time to distribute them. The chapter monarchs would take home the awards and give them to the receiving players at the next park day.

The operations of the Circle of Monarchs are officially defined in The Rising Winds Corpora.

Why join a kingdom?

Amtgard Kingdoms exist solely because of the players. We’re not a business with a corporate structure; we don’t have employees to run our events… we are a community. A community that has grown nationwide on the backs of thousands of Amtgard players like yourself, working together to make great things happen.

10153815_10203056220793771_3365942885331095166_nOur kingdom exists because hundreds of like-minded people across the Midwest and the Ohio Valley love our game, and are willing to travel hundreds of miles to camp out and play Amtgard; but it takes more than just players for our Kingdom to exist. Like Dungeons & Dragons games need volunteer Dungeon Masters, a Kingdom event calls for cooks, security, cleaning crews, gate staff, Monsters to fight, bad guys to hunt, and more. An Amtgard event calls upon the mundane talents of our entire populous just to make a three-day campout function. The best part is, all of this is entirely voluntary. If you just want to show up and play, that’s totally okay too.

Truth be told, we need you more than you need us; but that doesn’t mean that the relationship isn’t beneficial for you. When your chapter becomes a1422546_10203777410180886_6419061478570583326_n part of our kingdom, you become a part of our well-oiled machine in many ways, and that earns you many rights you wouldn’t have as a freehold. We elect our leadership democratically, and we make decisions as a community; all members that pay dues to their local chapters and maintain attendance may vote in elections, and may help the club make big decisions at althings.

No one’s vote is worth any more or less than anyone else’s. Our monarchy candidates campaign based on the types of events they wish to run, and the aspects of our game they want to focus on during their term. Through our voting, we determine the short term future of our club, and every member has an equal say in that.

Our system of Awards and Titles also rewards chapters for joining Kingdoms, and for growing larger as time goes on. Titles of Nobility and other awards can be given out by local chapters to their players at increasingly higher levels as chapters grow, but only if they’re sponsored by a Kingdom.

10474642_685352338169410_7799663535757907309_nA positive cycle develops from all of this. The system rewards chapters for growth, growing chapters mean there’s more people attending kingdom events, amazing kingdom events keep players interested long-term, and chapters themselves grow as long-term friendships and camaraderie develop. Our talent pool grows, and so does your home chapter.

This cycle has worked amazingly for our kingdom for more than a decade. Our kingdom has grown so much, it has given birth to neighboring kingdoms, and still maintains the largest number of chapters and the highest player population of any Kingdom in Amtgard.

We want you to be a part of that.
